Remanufactured Air Compressors

Remanufactured Air Compressors

ABOUT

Since we began remanufacturing air compressor in 2009, Snyder Equipment has become a primary source for rebuilt OEM locomotive air compressors. We rebuild almost all models of Gardner-Denver and Wabtec locomotive air compressors as well as Atlas-Copco GAR 30/37 models. Subassemblies and components are replaced by new or requalified parts to meet OEM dimensions and tolerances. Re-qualified parts are thoroughly cleaned, inspected for defects, and measured to OEM specifications. Parts that do not meet specifications are either reconditioned or replaced. All rebuilt compressors are 100% functionally tested prior to shipment. Testing is computer-controlled to confirm proper operation under difference pressure and temperature conditions. All test data is recorded, charted, and stored electronically for each compressor.

How to order Remanufactured Air Compressors

Snyder operates on a UTEX program, requiring a core to be submitted for teardown. Customers supply a purchase order along with a suitable core for the model that is ordered. If more than three major components are unusable, a core charge may be assessed. If the skid that arrives with the core is not usable, a skid charge may also be assessed.

In general, Snyder does not sell remanufactured air compressors without core, but there can be exceptions. Contact Snyder to discuss any special requests.

FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.
  • What locomotive air compressor models does Snyder rebuild?

We rebuild most Gardner Denver and Wabtec OEM models, including WBO/WLN 3-cylinder and WLA 4-cylinder water-cooled models and 3CDC air-cooled models (both direct-drive and motor-driven). Less common compressors such as WBG/WLG 6-cylinder models or Atlas-Copco GAR 30/37 models are also available. We also rebuild oil-free compressors for our parent company, New York Air Brake. Contact Snyder for any questions on our capabilites for less common models.

  • Do you offer upgrades?

Upgrades are available in some cases. One common upgrade is the addition of thermostatic control (TCIS) systems to certain 3CDC models. Contact us to discuss any upgrades you are considering.

  • Does Snyder operate as a repair and return?

Most repairs are done under UTEX terms – you send us a core air compressor and we send you an equivalent air compressor in return. In some cases, such as Atlas-Copco GAR 30/37 models,  Snyder will operate under repair and return for the same compressor you send in – for example, for unique models where core is not readily available. Terms must be clearly outlined before a P.O. is issued.

  • What are your typical lead times?

Lead times vary depending on the model of compressor, availability of suitable core, contractual obligations, and seasonal changes in demand. Contact us for the current lead times for any particular model.

  • What is a core charge?

A core charge is applied when three major components of the core are unusable and considered to be scrap . Major components are:

    • Crankshafts
    • Heads
    • Piston/rod assemblies
    • Intercoolers
    • Crankcases
    • Couplings
    • Cylinders
    • Motors

The typical core charge is $1600 for WBO models and $3500 for 3CDC, WLN, WLA and WLG/WBG models.

  • What is a skid charge?

A $300 skid charge applies when a core arrives on a skid that is unsuitable for return use. Cores should generally be supplied with a hardwood shipping skid measuring 40" x 60". In some cases, metal shipping skids are suitable.

    Drawings for typical skids:

    WBO: ACM-MI-0110

    WLN: ACM-MI-0111

    WLN/3CDC: ACM-MI-0109

Contact us if you are unsure if a skid is suitable for your core.

  • What work is performed on a remanufactured air compressor?

Select the link below for the proper Statement of Work and specification for your model.

    Gardner-Denver models (ACM-INFO-1000)

    Wabtec models (ACM-INFO-1002)

    Atlas-Copco models (ACM-INFO-1005).

New York Air Brake models (ACM-INFO-1006).

  • What is Snyder's Warranty on Air Compressors?

Snyder offers a 5-year prorated warranty on remanufactured air compressors. The warranty is 100% in the first year and drops by 20% each year (down to 20% in the fifth year). For motor-driven air compressors, rewound motors are covered by a 2-year non-prorated warranty. Motors refurbished via a dip-and-bake process are covered by a 3-month warranty.

NOTE: Snyder reserves the right to deny warranty if a compressor is missing parts such as oil filters and air filters that are necessary for a proper evaluation of a warranty compressor.

  • How does Snyder maintain traceability?

All major components are serialized at teardown. All usable crankcases are assigned a new serial number. Build sheets contain the serial number for all the major components that are installed in any crankcase.

  • Do you sell replacement parts?

Generally, Snyder doesn’t suppy replacement parts, although there are some cases where replacement parts are available. Contact us if you have a specific need.
